Reelu inc. · Nagoya Castle
A local guide walks you through the East Gate, past the Ninomaru Garden and into the gold-screened Honmaru Palace, then out to the Edo-style food street at the Main Gate for a tasting. It is the most reviewed castle tour in Nagoya, short enough for an afternoon and cheap for a guided visit.

Reelu runs this as a 2.5 to 3 hour walk with an English-speaking local guide, usually in the afternoon. You enter through the East Gate, cross the Ninomaru area with its garden, and spend the core of the tour in the Honmaru Palace, the lord's residence rebuilt by hand between 2009 and 2018 from Kiso cypress. Inside are the "Tiger Rooms" of the entrance hall, gold-leaf walls in the Omote-shoin, and the Jorakuden, built for the third shogun Iemitsu and the richest room of the lot, according to the castle's own room guide.
Then the walk leaves the castle for about 30 minutes on Kinshachi Yokocho, the food street at the Main Gate. Its Yoshinao zone is where the long-standing Nagoya restaurants sit: miso katsu, miso-stewed udon, hitsumabushi eel. The listing promises a local food tasting there and time for the souvenir shops, and it closes the walk with views over the city.
Two things to know. Some older copies of the itinerary still mention going into "the reconstructed main keep": you can't, it has been shut since May 2018 for a wooden rebuild with no completion date set. You see it from outside, golden shachihoko and all. And read the inclusions for the castle ticket before you pay. If it isn't listed, bring 1,000 yen (the adult price since 1 October 2026) or a card; the gates take both.
The meeting point given on booking is near Nagoya Monument; check your confirmation for the exact spot and time. Starts are usually in the afternoon.
In through the East Gate and past the Ninomaru Garden, with the castle's story from Ieyasu's 1610 order onwards.
Shoes off, then the entrance hall, the audience halls and the Jorakuden. No flash and no food or drink inside.
The Yoshinao zone at the Main Gate: a local food tasting and a look at the souvenir shops.
The listing ends the walk with a view over the city before you go your own way.

Check the inclusions on the listing before you book, and look at your confirmation. If the ticket isn't there, it is 1,000 yen for adults at the gate (since 1 October 2026), payable by cash, card or IC card. Children of junior high age and younger enter free.
No. The keep has been closed since May 2018 because the 1959 concrete tower is not earthquake-safe, and the city plans to rebuild it in wood. Inside, you visit the Honmaru Palace. Read why the keep is closed.
The listing promises a local food tasting on the Main Gate side of the street, where the Nagoya specialists are: miso katsu, miso udon and hitsumabushi among them. Exactly what you taste is up to the guide on the day.
2.5 to 3 hours, with about 30 minutes on Kinshachi Yokocho. The cruise-terminal pickup version takes about 3 hours.
